You can Build Self Confidence by Remembering Names

Your self confidence is effected

when you can’t remember someone’s name.

A fun way to build self confidence is to remember everybody’s name that you meet.

Many times we think that not remembering names is a just part of getting older. I have even heard people say that they weren’t born with the gene that you need to remember names. Although there might be some predisposition to memory acuteness, the experts are saying that we all had more photographic minds in our youth and we just stopped exercising them.

Cynthia Green, PHD and author of the book ”Total Memory Workout” says that we can all remember names if we train our brain properly. Actually, it is not as difficult as you might expect. It is like most things in our lives, it is only as difficult as we perceive it to be.

Build self confidence by exercising your mind in the following way.

1. Repeat the persons name in a sentence.

When you are introduced to a person, say like me, for example, you could say “Well Billy, it is great to finally meet my favorite blogger.” Also, when someone gives you their name, resist the tendency to be thinking about the clever thing you’re going to say next, instead of listening to their name.

2.Make a connection to the name.

You would want to picture me in a Billy the Kid costume or me shaking hands with Billy Bob Thorton.

3.Picture the name spelled out.

B-I-L-L-Y

4. Ask about the name.

You could say ”Now the name Billy, is that short for Bill or something? Or perhaps “Is that Yiddish?” I think you get the drift of what I am trying to say here.

5. Make up stories for the person’s name

Little Red Riding Hood was going to her uncle Billy’s house. He opened the door. With wide eyes she looked at him and said, “Uncle Billy what a big nose you have!”

6.Make a movie in your mind about the persons name.

You are sitting at the theater and the lights go down. The music from 2001 Space Oddesy starts. Da…Da…Da………Da-da. The credits start to roll and they say, “Introducing the next social media mogul, Billy Nafziger. “

7.Really look at their card.

Take a few moments to study their card then look at them in the eyes.

We all have thought at times that we build self confidence by acquiring titles and money. The ugly truth is that we build self confidence by acquiring skills. This skill of exercising our minds may give us the confidence we need to build our careers and add satisfaction to our life.

May these tips help you get started building your life, no matter what circumstances you are in today.

Ok, what’s my name?
