How Self-acceptance Removes Blocks
How lack of Self-acceptance blocks you.
I remember a while ago I had piled up several losses in my life. Along with some material losses I got into a funk. Although I was self-aware enough to realize that I was spiraling down I couldn’t seem to stop it.
I was emotionally blocked. I couldn’t write. It was difficult to concentrate. I just couldn’t seem to accomplish the tasks at hand.
Since accomplishment was extremely important to my self-esteem and I wasn’t getting anything done, I didn’t like myself very much. In fact I pretty much disgusted myself.
For other people it’s their bodies that make them hate themselves. For others it’s their past that generates self-loathing.
What I failed to realize was that I was doing my best under the circumstances. What I found out is that I was limited by my present level of self-acceptance. I knew that I should be doing better but that was not sufficient to actually do better.

The Keys to Self-acceptance.
Exactly how do we accept ourselves completely? ”Self-acceptance doesn’t work for me,” said Mary, sounding weary. “I just can’t do it.” “Why not?” I asked. “Because,” she said, pointing at herself, “I don’t know who this ‘self’ is that I’m meant to be accepting.”
To make a constructive change in your life, you must evaluate the potential benefits of any particular action. Then you must convince yourself that the benefits will justify or outweigh the price that you have to pay for them. You must be your own motivation.
What Mary and I had to learn was that we actually could get over our blocks and learn self-acceptance but it took some guts. The first thing we needed to do is quit judging ourselves long enough to find out who we really are. We did this through observing ourselves without judgment, We just observed.
We observed ourselves. We noticed our feelings we had about loss. We noticed and observed without judging our circumstances.
Then we gave ourselves approval. There are many ways to approve ourselves.
