Confidence in Any Circumstance
The # 1 Lie That We Believe About Our Self Identity
Not that long ago I found myself in a position where my self identity was totally related to my circumstances. I was broke scared and had very low self confidence. It wasn’t an unfamiliar feeling because I had been there a couple of times before. I was mad at myself for being in this situation again. I should have known better. I knew that I was smart, capable and a likable person. Why am I struggling, again?
The self derogatory remarks kept going through my mind until my anxiety turned to slight depression. I was afraid to do anything. I had failed again. I didn’t have the strength to dig out again. That is who I was!
Then I had a thought. “I’ll bet I am not the only person who is going through this. I’m going to Google.
What I found by really drilling down and putting several ideas’ together is an amazing Formula!
Self Identity minus Position equals Confidence.
In other words if I could eliminate my circumstances from who I truly am, I would be bursting with confidence.
I was relating so closely to my circumstances that I forgot who I was originally. I was relating to my materialistic notion that my self identity (self worth) equaled my material accumulations.
An Ohio State University study found that “For those people who are chronically insecure, materialism seems to be a coping mechanism that they use when they are putin a situation that makes them doubtful about themselves.”
So in this study 465 people who gave more attention to their position became more doubtful about themselves than those who felt that their material circumstances really didn’t say that much about them.
Separate who you are from your position. This is much easier said than done. On this website I am committed to refrain from giving simplistic advice. So I am developing this program to help people answer the question, Who am I, really?.
So maybe you think that you are your job. Are you really? No matter how long you live and work at that job, it is temporary. You are more than your job. Even if it is a job that is in alignment with your true nature. So who are you really?
Have you ever noticed yourself thinking about someone? It like there is two of you.One of you is thinking of someone and one of you is noticing the thinking. So are you the thinker or the one noticing the thinking? You can decide which one to relate to closely. The one doing the noticing is your conscious self. That is who you really are.
It is pure consciousness. It is without judgments, without desires, without any lack of any kind. It simply is. It doesn’t do anything it doesn’t expect anything. It is totally without doubt or remorse. It simply is. It is You without the baggage of the past or the promise of the future. This part of You can’t understand time or space. It is your true nature!
Step # 1 to gaining confidence is “Identify with your true nature”
Once you start relating to your true self identity you will believe that there are possibilities beyond belief. You will believe that no matter what happens you will always land on your feet. You will start seeing yourself as lovable.
The 14th century poet Rumi said “By God if you could see your beauty, You’ll be the idol of yourself”.
You are starting to remember, aren’t you?
In the link pages you will find articles on how to really identify your true nature.
